In America…
I am circling back to what I wrote on Mother’s Day. I wrote this to demonstrate that it can be easier and more straightforward than expected to help mothers in this country. This is the kind of help that all mothers could use…stay-at-home moms, working moms, single moms, married moms.
Am I romanticizing that there was a time we took a more ‘it takes a village’ approach to child-rearing? Am I romanticizing that there was a time when aunts and cousins and sisters and neighbors and grandparents and brothers and dear friends circled the wagons around new moms and lent a consistent and joyful hand? That our society instinctually recognized the value in and the need for coming together around moms and children? Have we lost those instincts?
Can we make a meal? Offer to babysit? Offer to clean? Offer to do laundry? Offer a grocery run? Offer a ride? Offer a smile?
