In America…

I remember in seventh grade reading the diary of Anne Frank.

I remember in high school learning more about the concentration camps, the Nazis and Hitler’s rise to power and Mussolini and Lenin and Stalin and the brutality and the gulags and the KGB and oppression and fear and people running for their lives.

I remember the great comfort I took in learning that we were a nation of separation of powers and checks and balances and that no one person could ever control and terrorize our country.
